About The Event
This workshop will allow you to learn about and share in the 'Barriletes' (kites) tradition. Fátima Alexhia Boylen will facilitate this community-building workshop.
As November in Guate also marks the change in seasons and the first winds of winter blowing in, the time is ripe for flying a kite, also known as 'barriletes'. The Mayan people have used kites to communicate with the spirits of deceased loved ones for centuries. In November, you see kites sprinkled across the sky no matter where you are in Guatemala.
Honoring that tradition, we'll each make a paper kite (simple and small-scale) in community!
Each ticket includes materials for one 'barrilete', in a donation-based, or 'pay what you can' model, directly to the instructor. Suggested ticket price is $15. Drinks and treats will be available for purchase. We appreciate your support to Convivio Café!
This workshop is targeted for kids, but everyone is welcome!
