About The Event
This workshop will allow you to learn about and share in the 'Barriletes' tradition. Fátima Boylen will facilitate this community-building workshop.
As November in Guate also marks the change in seasons and the first winds of winter blowing in, the time is ripe for flying a kite, also known as 'barriletes'. Mayan people have used kites to communicate with the spirit of deceased loved ones for centuries. In November, you see kites sprinkled across the sky no matter where you are in Guatemala.
Honoring that tradition, we'll each make a paper kite (simple and small scale) - in community!
Each ticket includes materials for one 'barrilete' and one delicious agua fresca. Other drinks and treats will be available for purchase.
This workshop is targeted for kids, but everyone is welcome!
